Stars to Face Golden Knights in First Round of 2024 NHL Playoffs

NHL Announces Official Playoff Bracket

Dallas, Texas

The National Hockey League (NHL) has officially set the playoff bracket for the 2024 season, and the Dallas Stars will open their first-round series against the Vegas Golden Knights. The announcement was made by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman in Frisco, Texas, at the conclusion of the regular season.

The Stars and Golden Knights finished the regular season with identical 47-22-13 records, but Dallas secured the third seed in the Central Division by virtue of its superior goal differential. Vegas, meanwhile, claimed the second Wild Card berth in the Western Conference. This will be the first-ever playoff meeting between the two teams.

The first two games of the series will be played in Dallas on April 12 and 14, before shifting to Vegas for Games 3 and 4 on April 16 and 18. If necessary, Games 5, 6, and 7 will be played in Dallas on April 20, 22, and 24, respectively.

The Stars are coming off a disappointing playoff performance in 2023, when they were eliminated in the second round by the Edmonton Oilers. However, they have a lot of experience in the postseason, having reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 2020. The Golden Knights, meanwhile, are making their fifth playoff appearance in franchise history.

The winner of the Stars-Golden Knights series will advance to the second round to face the Colorado Avalanche, the top seed in the Central Division.
