Watch and Learn

The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced that the first launch of its Ariane 6 heavy-lift rocket is scheduled for July 9, 2024. The launch will take place from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, during a four-hour window starting at 1500 CEST.

The Ariane 6 is designed to meet the growing demand for satellite launches, particularly for communications and Earth observation satellites. It has a payload capacity of up to 10.3 metric tons to geostationary transfer orbit.

The rocket's maiden flight will carry two satellites: the Space Rider reusable spaceplane and the Vega E upper stage demonstrator.

ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher said, "The first launch of Ariane 6 is a major milestone for Europe's space program. It will mark the start of a new era for European space exploration and innovation."
